Ive been going here for years, have had many of the very well done pasta's, ribs are very good too. On one of my first few visits i saw a pizza go bye our table, looked like a meatball under cheese on each slice. I asked the server, she said no its sausage. I had it the next time i visited, oh my. Excellent, i can not not order it. I had it this evening out on the patio with a morretti beer and gorganzola salad. What can i say i am hooked. My wife likes the pollo davinci, she thought the sauce on the lasagna was a tad sweet. If your near Paw Paw enjoy La Cantina Hopefully i will be there too!

Only ate here once and it was probably four years ago. The food was very good for small town Italian. Enjoyed the view overlooking the dam.

Probably the most high end you can get in Paw Paw. Great food, good service, just wish the atmosphere was a little more private.

It is delicious! It is really nice to sit out on the patio on a warm night. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We love the ribs, pizza, pasta, salad... everything!

For SW Michigan Italian this is probably one of the better ones. If you want to get away from the more crowded beach resort areas. There is an outdoor patio area overlooking a river. I would recommend this. I have eaten here twice now and both times noticed an odd musty smell inside the restaurant...probably because its been around so long and next to a river. This last time I took the family for pizza. It was good. Better than we would have gotten at some pizza place. Good service.

The Good: - Authentic, family atmosphere - Great Caesar salad - Friendly service - Tiramisu BEST I EVER HAD! - Good coffee - Plenty of room for large groups The Bad: - Kitchen ran out of bread - Veal parmesan was "ok" - Marinara sauce overly tangy Overall, a nice treat if you are looking for a non-chain Italian restaurant and are willing to drive to Paw Paw (I would drive there just for the Tiramisu actually!). Also (at least on Mother's Day) they took reservations which was nice.

Ehhh... it was ok! My salad was amazing, fantastic! One of the best I've had in a while. My pasta, not good. The red sauce was overly tangy and just not my thing, at all, I was irritated that my spaghetti noodles were broken up. My husband enjoyed his pizza. Service was fine and friendly. We were very excited for this place because when we drove by it looked so busy...

ANALYST UPGRADE: GET THE RIBS Yes, I know it's an Italian restaurant. But I figured that such a random item on an otherwise completely Italian menu had to be there for a reason. And it was GOOOOD. Mouths were watering around my table as I devoured these smokey, sweet, lightly charred pieces of heaven. Other highlights include the La Cantina chicken and the fantastic meatballs. To top it all off we got an excellent table on the patio overlooking Maple Lake. What a perfect perfect summer night!

This place adheres to the "c" holy trinity of dining: cleanliness, customer service and culinary excellence. I have eaten here several times and never once been disappointed which is truly saying something. Service is prompt and attentive, food is masterfully prepared and generously portioned. The decor is a little stuffy and dated - think faux foliage festooned about with a heavy hand. Luckily, it is not so oppressive as to feel like your grandmother's parlor. While the cost is a bit higher than I generally like to spend ($16-$30 per person) it really is excellent food and therefore I can not only stomach forking over the money to eat here, but feel like i got my money's worth.

I'm a sucker for patio seating, and overlooking a river, perfection. Claims and linguine with red sauce was amazing. BBQ ribs were fall off the bone good. Wine list would have been good if they actually had any of it. We tried to order a bottle and our waitress had to come back four times saying she was out of what we ordered. They also brought us a bottle of something we didn't order. She went in to explain they are restocking soon, and ended up comping a bottle for us, so that was really nice, and totally made up for the issue. Service was friendly and enjoyable. Atmosphere was nice. Overall, this place was delicious. We had a great time, and left with a ton of leftovers.

Chicken Parmesan $6.95 on Wednesday night. We sat outside by the water. The food and salad were awesome. We got there early and by the time we left it was full. Can't wait for $3.95 spaghetti and meatball night.

Incredible pizza, fine Italian dining with awesome Cedar Planked Walleye, Pasta dinners and great spaghetti specials. The sauce is the Boss here and the place has ambiance for a romantic evening!

Great ribs and pizza. I came here as a kid and have fond memories. Just as good now as it was then. Minestrone was to die for. Great house salad dressing. Service and atmosphere excellent. Would definitely recommend this for a date or family outing or girls night out.

I am in town from California visiting my in laws. They are in their mid 80s. Tuesday night is their thing. They take that single meatball and tons of spaghetti, eat some, and then take their leftovers home. Portions of everything are huge. The wine list is decent. We enjoyed an Italian Tuscan red for 28. I watch my carbs and decided an eggplant parmigiana ordered minus the pasta with a veggie sub would be good. The waitress brought it with the pasta, realized the kitchens mistake, and returned with the veggies saying there would be no charge for that (?). The first bite was sweet. The second even more so. There sauce was so loaded with sugar that four bites was all I could handle. Omg. I can't believe anyone can eat this sauce over pasta without going into a diabetic coma! I still feel over sugared 3 hours later and i didn't eat ore than a third of the dish Our water glasses were never refilled. There is exactly one blue zone spot in front of a restaurant that probably seats 200 and it was occupied by the same car before and after our dinner. That made it difficult to get my 87 year old MIL into the restaurant. They need to resolve that before someone sues them for ADA issues.

I can't say I have ever thought of Paw Paw and Italian food in the same sentence, UNTIL NOW! I ate there the other night and WOW, portions are great, service was wonderful. Do yourself a favor and get the La Cantina chicken! AMAZING! Well done, on my annual vacation to Paw Paw, La Cantina will be a must! WELL DONE!

It's obvious that La Cantina is beloved by residents in Paw Paw and 'hoods nearby. It was brimming on a chilly December night, chianti bottles tipped back and tables lined with pizzas, which is perhaps what I should have ordered. The walls were stucco, framed with green vines hanging from the ceiling, checkered table cloths and some of the sweetest and most delightful service: a saving grace. Our waitress might as well have been rubbing my back while she took my order. I ordered the eggplant parmesan, a recommendation and a dish that "people order all the time." My hubs got the spaghetti and meatballs. We figured both are barometer dishes, both will set the standard. Sadly, they left me wanting to walk to the table next to ours, introduce myself and chat my way into pizza pleasure. The sauce, oy, the sauce. . . too sweet. Sugary sweet. Canoli filling sweet. Not for my palette at all. Where was the garlic? The oregano? Even the acidity of the tomato was lost. Fooey. I will say too that this place is a bargain. Not at first glance, but my plate alone comprised a dinner for two and a kid. Easily. Even a fat kid. I walked out with leftovers, a cozy, homey feeling. . . I had been here before, years ago, when we just started dating. There's photographic evidence, and we sought to re-create that little bit of bliss. It just wasn't this time. Palettes refined and wedding bands in place, we simply must have a more magical marinara.

Nice atmosphere, friendly waitstaff, and the window seating by the river is a nice perk. The portions are HUGE (enough to feed at least 3 and come with bread, and salad or soup) but the flavors were "meh". We ordered two entrees and a glass of wine and left with a $40 bill and enough leftovers to cover us for the rest of our visit to Paw Paw. We enjoy supporting family-owned local establishments but I don't think we'll be back.

After a long day at Bittersweet Ski Resort last Saturday, My boyfriend and I were ravenous and needed some place on way back home (two hour drive south). We decided to stop in Paw Paw and La Cantina fulfilled all our needs. The atmosphere was cozy and warm and extremely comfortable. It wasn't busy at 9:30pm. Our waiter was very friendly and personable, and I ended up getting one of his dish recommendations - the Pollo da Vinci, which was fabulous! Stuffed full of squash, peppers, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and chicken over fettucini in a creamy truffle sauce - it was heaven. We didn't drink, but the wine selection looked impressive, and the food was delicious (including the appetizer bread and special olive oil mix, which I don't usually eat!) We both enjoyed our meals. It is on the pricier side, and the amount of food was too much (even my boyfriend - who eats a ton, couldn't finish), but that's what leftovers are for! In all, I would totally eat here again due to the impressively delicious meal and friendliness of our waiter. Great experience!

Stopped for dinner. Cute place and nice staff. I had spaghetti and meatballs and my husband had the mostacolli. Both dishes were way too much food. They were both OK. The bread was very good, grained bread, yum. Would not stop again, too much food, over priced.

I came here last year with my husband and his brother. We were on our way home from a very very long days work (nearly 24 hours start to finish) and decided to stop in here for dinner. What a mistake. We placed our order only to have the waiter return five minutes later to inform us one of the menu items we selected was out of stock. Very disappointing. The server apologized but it was still kind of annoying to have to reorder after already waiting five minutes. A little later our food came out but we had a different server. I guess our last server's shift ended. We ate dinner and asked for the check. It was at this point things got crazy. Our first server had taken our groupon code when he took our order so the number was on the check but our new server was having trouble making it work. Apparently the first guy put it into the computer already so when they tried to do it again, they obviously couldn't. The waitress and the manager then spent the next hour trying to figure out the very obvious problem. We explained the situation but they int budge. They actually accused us of trying to use the coupon twice even though there was a time stamp of when the coupon was used (which was when we first put in our order). We offered to just pay the bill in full so we could leave but they don't want to hear that either. It was like we were stuck! Needless to say, this place is run by a woman who has no idea how to treat her customers. She should really have done more research on how groupon works before signing up for it. I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be.

We had a special occasion dinner last night at La Cantina. The food, the service and the view were perfect. The portions are huge! I had a ribeye special with a garlic-wine-cream sauce that was very good. My husband ordered the La Cantina chicken. I usually don't get too excited over chicken but this is perfect-two fork tender breasts in a sweet and spicy red wine vinegar sauce. So excited that the patio on the water is open now!

I've grown up in the Paw Paw area and as kid my family used to eat here often and being of Italian decent it was great, reminded me of my families meals. After returning to Michigan after living out of state my husband and I decided to go for dinner on our date night and we were very disappointed with our meal from start to finish. Yes the portions are very generous but we waited a very long time between appetizers and the main course and again for desert. The food is WAY over priced, the service was so so and the food itself was blah. If I had to choose between here and The Olive Garden it would be The Olive Garden hands down every time and being Italian I don't care much for Olive Garden. We will NOT be back and I won't recommend this to anyone. Very sad that this place has gone down hill.

First time dining here with a great view of the river, sunshine and many choices of draft beer. The staff was attentive, friendly and had a great sense of timing. We had the clam linguini (wow) chicken Vesuvius (moist and tender) and meatballs were tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and will be back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
